  6. Those approached for comments declined
following the tense situation while shops owners
refused to open for fear of possible attack by
hoodlums. Contacted on the crisis last night spokesman for
Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Muyiwa
Adejobi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police
(ASP) said normalcy had returned to the area. He said policemen led by Mr. Adeoye Oyinlola an
Assistant Commissioner of Police and Area
Commander in charge of Ota were deployed to
maintain law and order at Ijoko. Adejobi said the State Police Command
headquarters has not been briefed on the
casualty at 7.15 p.m when he spoke with our
Correspondent. He however said one person was shot in the
latest crisis. Copyright © 2010 Daily Champion. All rights reserved. Distributed by AllAfrica Global Media

  7. Abeokuta — LINGERING chietaincy feud between
the Aworis and Egbas of Ijoko in Ado Odo/Ota
Local Government Area of Ogun State deepened
yesterday with the killing of one Bashiru aka
Baba Beji by suspected assassins. Bashiru was allegedly murdered in his sleep last
Sunday night at his residence in the Intabo area
of Ijoko in the presence of the wife whose
identity could not be ascertained at press time. Bashiru, Daily Champion learnt is a strong loyalist
of Oba Lasisi Ogunseye of Ijoko. His death ignited
fresh tension in the town as news of his sudden
demise was received with shock and disbelief. Another loyalist of the monarch, identified as
Binti was shot dead February 27, following a
disagreement over who should collect N100,000
said to have been levied on a developer building a
storey-building at Intabo area of Ijoko. Both Aworis and Egbas led by Oba Ogunseye are
claiming to ownership of Ijoko land. The Aworis
are led by Chief Alani Matanmi. The two tribes
are locked in a legal battle over the appointment
of Oba Ogunseye by the Olowu of Owu,
Abeokuta, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu a few years ago. However, yesterday news of Bashiru’s death at
dawn forced pupils and students who were going
to school to return home over security fears. Both private and public schools including NUD
primary school, Ijoko were shut. Our correspondent observed that hundreds of
residents of the town rushed to the Oba’s palace
at Ijoko to condole with him on the death of his
    loyalist.
